To participate in the race for EYC2028, a lot has to happen. The most important thing is to write a 'bidbook' spread across several rounds. This contains the plans and ideas of young people, which are gradually developed further. Until there is a complete program for the coming years. And of course for the year; 2028.

Our submission is before the jury - exciting!
The time has come! Our first bid, which is the questionnaire with our vision and ideas for Leeuwarden in the future, is now before the jury. They decide which cities are through to the next round. We'll hear more on April 2, 2025. Exciting!

We did it!
The city council now really confirms it: we can submit our bid and become a candidate for European Youth Capital 2028.

First half of 2024
Information gathering
In the first half of 2024, we started collecting information. After extensive research, with a lot of input from young people, our candidacy is increasingly taking shape.
Summer 2023
Green light!
The municipality's first green light! In the summer, a project manager will be appointed and a team will be put together to prepare for the candidacy. They will start in October 2023.
